Up until 1966 Felsina was one of the several estates owned by the Dukes of Tuscany, and was predominately farmed by sharecroppers that were using the land to grow olives. After World War II Domenico Poggiali Felsina purchased a wine estate in Chianti Classico, and with the help of a young team of skilled businessmen, modernity and passion was injected to the business that has greatly expanded. Today, the estate and its 600 hectares of rocky, chalky soil are operated by Domenico’s heirs.
Felsina’s Berardenga Grand Vin uses grapes from vineyards located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation. Due to the sloped location of the vineyard, harvest tends to be scattered at the different altitudes of the Sangiovese wine that was initially released in 1967. Berardenga is a definitive example of the Chianti Classico appellation, and even considered a reference point for pure Sangiovese created for your cellar.
