“This seemingly complex path is the most natural for us. Our wine is the offspring of the land in which the wines are cultivated, and once in the winery must be brought up, step by step, as if it were a member of the family. Our wine is one of us.”
-Conterno Fantino Website
Founded in 1982 by in-laws Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino, the Piedmont producer is based on a hillside near Monforte d’Alba and known for producing Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay. Conterno Fantino’s nearly 70 acres of land assist in the production of nearly 12,000 cases annually, and the founders have made a point to keep the business within the family. They are focused on environmental sustainability, preserving biodiversity in the vineyards, and overall respect of the land and its heritage to be able to continue to make considerate wines for generations to come. With that being said, Conterno Fantino has created a high reputation which has allowed them to create authenticity in their wines year in and year out. Legitimacy to the consumer combined with the tightly-knit texture, outstanding tannins and layered flavors in the physical wines have allowed for the bottles to become both great for current consumption as well as cellar aging.
