Located in the Seewinkel area of the Burgenland region of Austria, Weinlaubenhof Alois Kracher is a winery that sits in a unique microclimate. The terroir of the vineyards is perfect for the spread of botrytis which is necessary to produce its well-known Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese sweet wines. Originally founded in the mid-19th Century by Alois Kracher, the winery was taken over by his son, Luis, in 1991. Being the important figure in the Austrian wine industry that he was, Luis’ death was a tragedy for the nation, but his son, Gerhard, took over in 2007 and operates the winery to this day. Along with their range of sweet wines, Kracher produces sparkling and dry white and red wines made from varietals such as Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Weissburgunder, Muscat Ottonel and Scheurebe. With endless persistence, the three generations of Kracher men have been effortless promoters for wines that have become known as Austrian specialties.
