Champagne wishes, and caviar dreams! Largely responsible for the elitist reputation Champagne holds today, Veuve-Clicquot continues to be one of the greatest and most influential Champagne houses in the world. It was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron, who passed away and left his widow in charge of the estate. In French, “veuve” means widow- hence the current brand name.

Madame Clicquot actually invented the riddling rack, which is integral in modern Champagne making. She was also responsible for the presence and popularity of Clicquot in royal courts across Europe. Recently, divers in the Baltic Sea fond 30 bottles of Clicquot from 1780s among the ship wreckage they were exploring. "It was fantastic, it had a very sweet taste, you could taste oak and it had a very strong tobacco smell. And there were very small bubbles.", said one of the Divers about the bubbly they had discovered.
