“A modern day elixir that should prove to be monumental…”
–Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Located in the St. Emilion appellation of Bordeaux, Château Pavie Macquin has a respected classification of Premier Grand Cru Classé B status. The chateau got its start when negociant Ferdinand Bouffard sold it to Albert Macquin who rose to fame when he was the first to use the rootstock grafting method to battle the ongoing phylloxera pandemic of the time. The Pavie Macquin estate is bordered by the two other Pavie estates- Château Pavie and Château Pavie-Decesse, all of which are owned by Gerard Perse. Because of their location on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Pavie Macquin is known for their Merlot-dominant blends with additional amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery’s reputation changed drastically for the better in 1990 when Stephane Derenoncourt joined the winemaking team, and since then Pavie Macquin has been extremely popular in the premium, terroir-driven wine market.
