The Winery
Joh Jos Prum
Since 1156, the Prum family has called the village of Wehlen in the Mosel appellation of Germany home. The Prum estate that we know of today was established by Sebastian Alois Prum, but wasn’t until several decades later that his great-grandson, Joh. Jos. Prum, began the estate and by 1920 it grew to world recognition. The 33.5 acre estate is planted to 95% Riesling and has an annual case production of around 13,000 cases.
Tasting Notes
- WS96
- Piercing scent of slate, then the palate is awash in peach, pear and lime notes, intricately layered in the dense, yet clear texture. Beautifully defined by a firm, well-integrated structure, with an endless finish. Drink now through 2020.
- WA91
- Complex aromas of honeyed minerals, slate, and red fruits can be discerned in the nose of the 2001 Riesling Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Medium-bodied, this is a deep, pure, and powerful wine with outstanding depth, concentration and length. Candied red currants dominate this well-strewn offering's luscious yet delineated character.
