At Montevertine, simplicity, respect, extreme care about details, and know-how are the guiding principles that inspire their daily work. Their winemaking method is extremely traditional and always the same, since their very first harvests. The hand-picked grapes are fermented in vitrified concrete vats, without temperature control, and by performing two pumping-over operations per day to keep the cap of skins moist for a gentler extraction of tannins from the skins.

Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2009 is a distinguished 100% Sangiovese from Radda in Chianti, renowned for its elegance and complexity. This wine is crafted from high-altitude galestro and alberese soils, aged for about 24 months in a combination of Allier barriques and Slavonian casks. The 2009 vintage showcases a captivating profile with layers of sweet red cherries, aromatic herbs, spices, and a hint of mint, wrapped in a silky finish. The wine exhibits a polished texture with subtle tannins, reflecting its iconic heritage and the influence of biological farming practices. This benchmark Super-Tuscan is poised for further aging and continues to evolve beautifully.

- The 2009 Le Pergole Torte is flat-out great. Layers of fruit wrap around the palate in this flashy, seductive Pergole Torte. There are no hard edges to be found. Sweet red cherries, roses, spices and mint are layered into the silky, radiant finish. The 2009 is a wine of extraordinary elegance. Today the 2009 comes across as a smaller scaled version of the 2007. This is also the first year of biological farming at Montevertine. Despite the heat wave in August, Martino Manetti waited until October 12 to bring the Sangiovese in.
