"Burgundy makes you think of silly things, Bordeaux makes you talk of them and Champagne makes you do them."
- Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
Hailing from Pauillac, this Bordeaux deuxieme growth is considered by Bordelaise aficionados to be a “super second”. It would be an understatement to say the wines are comparable to the First Growths, and the wines are as magical as the estate itself, with the Château boasting conical towers that are Sleeping Beauty-esque.
There are two wines produced, Château Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville which is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Les Tourelles de Longueville which is more Merlot. The wines are masculine, brawny yet refined, opulent and full-bodied, and demand a minimum of a decade in the cellar for optimum enjoyment. Vintages to look out for are 1982, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2005.
